AMURT Romania

AMURT Romania is a branch of Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team which is one of the few voluntary organizations of Third World origin. AMURT was established in 1970 and incorporated in Romania in 1990. AMURT Romania is a non-profit NGO – formally recognized as such by the United Nations through its Department of Public Information.

AMURT Romania has developed and managed two big projects: “Domnesti Children’s Home” and “Multifunctional Centre of Domnesti”. The later included two special programs: “Transitional Living” and “Independent Living”, which also included certified vocational courses and vegetable gardening experience. Other smaller projects were developed as part of the first project: Computer Literacy Center and the buying three apartments in Bucharest. AMURT Romania's last project, funded by Norway/EEA grants, aimed to reduce poverty among Roma and other ethnic groups.

Mission Statement

Encourage and facilitate self development among vulnerable people through immediate actions and programs that lead to their socio-economic independence.

1993 to 2008

Domnesti Children's Home: for children with the love and special care that they needed to overcome the challenges caused by the traumas of their early life experiences.

2009 to 2015 (2017)

An effort to prepare homeless youths for adulthood by using a development approach when exercising day-to-day tasks in learning life and work skills.

2014 to 2016

Reduce poverty among Roma and other ethnic groups by practicing the democratic citizenship, multiculture dialogue and with employment opportunities.

2017

On October 19, 2017 caught fire. The roof was extensively damaged and has to be completely replaced. Before the fire, plans were underway to do minor renovations to convert the building into an after-school center or youth center to build on the work we have done with the local community, but this was an enormous setback.
